Throughout this 2014 year, designers have created for you specific wallpaper calendars, free to download and set in Typofonderie typefaces. Each month, it’s also a great opportunity to ask few questions our monthly guest designer. For the month of April 2014, it’s Jean-Baptiste Morizot who has chosen the Mislab, designed by Xavier Dupré. He answers to our questions.
Recent typefaces and lettering projects by Jean-Baptiste Morizot.
Who are you?
A book junkie: graduate from the Métiers du livre (Bordeaux) where I now give few hours of teaching, I’m mainly working for publishing houses. But today my attention shifts more and more toward type design.
What inspires you?
When I draw typeface, music. In graphic design, colors.
Your favorite typeface?
Univers, a workhorse typeface with the strengh of a Grotesk and the subtility of Frutiger’s drawing.
Your favorite designer?
I’m fond of 17th–18th Dutch typography: van den Keere, Kis, Fleischmann, etc. I need to mention French punchcutters of the 18th century too: I love the work of Fournier and Vafflard.
Name your favorite book?
Easy: L’Ascension du Haut Mal de David Beauchard Powerful story, good sense of narration, incredible drawing. Once you’ve read it, it never leaves you.
Your favorite place in the world?
Bordeaux, I love the city. It breaks my heart each time I leave.
