This typeface was conceived as an extra version of the Le Monde Livre. A typeface family featuring a lot of traditional elements revisited in a contemporary manner, not as a typeface revival. Designing a typeface in the nineties featuring ligatures, special variation of many glyphs, vignettes and ornaments wasn’t perfect. Specially for the users. So, with advanced OpenType technology as in common use today, it was obvious that a revamp of this typeface would be a good initiative.
The theme of the third Portuguese conference about typography aptly named III Typography Meeting, focusing this year on Convergences. This new edition of III Encontro de Tipografia will take place on 5 and 6 October 2012, at the Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, Porto, Portugal.
Stéphane Elbaz is graphic and type designer. In 2009 he was awarded the Certificate of Excellence in Type Design from the Type Directors Club of New York for his type family Geneo recently published by Typofonderie. He is the first typeface designer outside the foundry to be published by Typofonderie. It seems to be interesting and necessary to interview him.

Few weeks ago, we received the printed specimens of the recently launched Geneo. For this new typeface, we decided with Stéphane Elbaz to ask Félix Demargne, a talentued graphic designer, to design the new typeface specimen. We through that it would be a good thing to ask a few questions to the really first user of this wonderful typeface. Here after are his answers…
Started as an informal versions of Parisine, Parisine Plus was designed with the idea of bringing to a sanserif a lot from what we can generally find in serif typefaces. Serif typefaces are built on long tradition of letterforms taking their roots on writing. It is less directly the case with sanserif. Parisine Plus can be described as a “lineale garalde” or a Humanistic sans depending which typeface classification system you prefer. Humanistic sanserif are praised for their legibility and the rhythm they bring to paragraphs.

Typocamp is the result of a joint initiative of the Foundry (Digital Agency of Île-de-France), Silicon Xperience and Graffr, within the Futur en Seine festival. It is a type manifestation of a new kind posing as challenge of creating and staging typography in 48 hours in the fields of print, web and animation. We have also noted the presence as a type design team from the Velvetyne type foundry. The first edition took place on 22, 23 and 24 June at the Cantine.
